breaded fried cods roe

before his parkinsons made it a bit inadvisable for him to cook (ie many years ago now) my dad, who always did breakfast, would serve up the above as an occasional special breakfast treat – and as a result i always assumed it was super-expensive somehow and never tried it myself even though i LOVE it: in fact it is cheap (despite near-extinction of cod?) but v.v.FIDDLY* and to be honest i haven’t got it right yet

(or maybe it’s just one of those things that doing yrself takes away the surprise which is half the pleasure?)

anyway recipe as follows:
i. remove roe from tin carefully and slice equally carefully
ii. dip in egg yolk then breadcrumbs, v.V.carefully
iii.fry gently in butter
iv.serve with toast and/or lemon juice

*(it comes totally to pieces basically, and if yr not careful you just get a panful of fried crumbs)

THE FREAKY TRIGGER TOP 100 SONGS OF ALL TIME A Note on Methodology

THE FREAKY TRIGGER TOP 100 SONGS OF ALL TIME
A Note on Methodology

You may be familiar with how these lists are compiled. You may not be. The theory is that people’s truest aesthetic preferences come out under the influence of some substance or other (generally alcohol). The theory is also that the essence of list making is competition as well as consensus – individuals trying to win the majority over to their view of the world. The theory is thirdly that list-making should certainly not be confined to those people who actually know about the stuff being listed.

Hence the method: you get a bunch of people in the pub. Each in turn proposes something for inclusion in the list. One other person needs to second their nomination, and then everyone gets a chance to veto. If enough people (enough = half to two-thirds) veto it, it’s out. Otherwise, it’s in. With the Top 100 songs a special rule applied, viz. if lots of people started to sing along with it, it went in whether vetoed or not. You keep up this process until you have 100 songs.

(There is also a rationale for having the last named item be No.1 rather than the first. But I forget what it is. It’s more fun that way, anyhow.)

Anyway, the Top 100 Songs of all Time – we’ll be counting these down over the next few months on NYLPM. Are they really the Top 100 Songs of all Time? Well, you might not think so – particularly after you see what No.100 is. But wait until the end of the list and we’ll ask the magic eight-ball that question again.

A Low-Key Return For The INDIE AMNESTY

A Low-Key Return For The INDIE AMNESTY

Here are the latest batch of INDIE AMNESTY items to be offered on eBay. A quick reminder of the premise of the indie amnesty – people give their shameful indie CDs to me to be put beyond use (i.e. sold on eBay, proceeds to the Grecian Earn appeal). They get a clear conscience, Exeter gets a financially viable football club, some punter (maybe even one of YOU) gets the indie they crave.

I would be frankly astonished though if more than one of these sells:

mumble mumble knickers mumble
looks like the worst CD in the universe
“Rare” unless you visit the MVE basement
it gets no indie-r
could be grindcore for all I know

You can see the full list quickly by going here. Better Amnesty stuff to follow after the post-Xmas spending hangover wears off. NB: Later today I’m planning to put up some more CDs which WON’T be part of the Indie Amnesty, these will be indicated as such in the item description and monies from them will go straight into my fat paws.
