It seems slightly ironic that the first day I pitch up in my new place of employment as an Educator (of sorts), I should also be going back to school myself in the evening. Having commuted back early from Glasgow to be able to attend, I am now officially part of adult education, which I had previously only associated with various episodes of The Simpsons, and a dimly remembered BBC sitcom. So in theory, at least, I will be learning to cook Indian food — or rather, in practice, since this is very much a hands-on experience. The demonstration this week was of some rather tasty onion bhajis, with mint sauce: and I am now struggling to resist the temptation to try the recipe out over the weekend so that next week when it’s our turn to make them, I’ll be ahead of the game. CB, who is also taking the course (we’ll share materials, but cook separately) reckoned this was a) Sad and b) Not Playing by the Rules. Only other intriguing nugget was that the attendance figures for earlier versions of the same course have plummetted on the one week when both dishes to be prepared are vegetarian. I shall of course keep you posted on my progress; but also on whether the other participants turn out to be ravenous flesh-eating creatures who are repelled by vegetables…
