Thanks to Tim H for a list of releases by The Clientele. The first link has MP3s and .wavs and things to make your life nicer. (And Tim, no, you probably wouldn’t like Piano Magic - they’re quite cold and intellectual. But I might be wrong).
DUEL! - Quarter Finals: nerve-racking excitement, oh yes. Two bouts today: Kid Rock vs Skunk Anansie, and the Smashing Pumpkins vs Richard Ashcroft.
For the hordes coming from Jejune, Us Vs Them, and Amplified To Rock to see the Guide To Dating Indie Rock Girls - might I suggest checking out Tanya’s piece on going out with a record collector if you’ve not done so already?
Us Vs Them muses about the indie rock guy’s guide to dating Electronic girls. I assume he meant Electronica girls, though I believe there are several, ahem, virtual girlfriends available in Japan, ho ho. My guess is it would be a short fling, anyway, because even the most inflamed of lovers are likely to get sick of those awful John Spencer and Tortoise remix CDs fairly swiftly. Nanette’s apparently a raver, so you could ask her.
josh writes of Yo La Tengo’s cover of “Little Honda”: “The beauty of the song is that it takes a pretty rinky-dink Beach Boys song (sorry, Fred) about a guy and his motor scooter, and turns it into a shoegazeresque drone.” Other than being a novel way to approach it, why is this the ‘beauty’ of the song? I can see an at least equal need for songs about guys and cars as for drones.
