Here’s Pitchfork talking about Plus 8 Classics, the 2CD compilation of Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva’s techno label’s greatest tracks. Having just bought it I can inform you that greatest in this context is no lie, though secretly I was hoping for perhaps a little more blood-in-the-eyes minimalism along the lines of Plastikman’s “Spastik” and a little less soulfulness, which is pretty and tasteful but not what I listen to techno for. On the other hand Disc 2 has Speedy J’s “Patterns (Remix)”, one of the most powerful electronic records I have ever in my lifetime heard, and now I have it on CD rather than a scuffy old C90 I truly have no choice but to bend the knee in worship.
