I am going to say a bit more about Mean Girls later (actually I am going to say a LOT more about Mean Girls later) but first an observation. There is a character called Janis Ian in Mean Girls. That’s it. It is completely apropos to nothing. Oh, the film makers know what they have done, there is one scene (without Janis in) which has At Seventeen playing in the background. But who is this joke for.
Answer: this joke is for people like me. But it is also a joke on they producers of Mean Girls. Because the lyrics to At Seventeen completely precis the plot of Mean Girls. Except Janis Ian’s version is more realistic, and a good one hundred minutes shorter.
