two pieces by Kenzan

context: ceramics > Edo period

Ogata Kenzan 1663-1743

root page on the Ogata brothers

Ogata Kenzan, brother of the very famous painter Ogata Korin, was a pretty good painter, but he was certainly one of the great ceramicists. I've seen one book suggest he was a follower of Ninsei Nonomura, but I find that hard to see. Some of his ceramics had designs devised or even actually painted by his brother, but many were all his own work.
