Haruki Murakami 1949-Probably Japan's biggest international literary star these days, and one of the most popular Postmodernist writers anywhere. His eccentric work is very influenced by Kurt Vonnegut and Richard Brautigan, among others, and is funny, full of odd fantasy elements, and bleakly critical or satirical. He's one of those writers who, in my social circles, everyone assumes everyone else likes. backwards: Kenzaburo Oeforwards: Banana Yoshimoto |
