Tosa Mitsuyoshi 1536-1613

Butterfly Dance, by Tosa Mitsuyoshi, from 1585

Frankly I know next to nothing of Tosa Mitsuyoshi, but the image here is so sumptuous that it seemed enough to make me create the page. It's the Tosa style at its lush best, I think, Heian styles with bold and extravagant covering and plenty of golden clouds. I don't know anything at all about the calligraphic right hand side, but I think the purple with gold fleck background, and the lettering itself, are as magnificent as the image.
