Tosa school

This was the only rival to the Kano school. The Tosa was more aligned to the emperor, which might sound good, but unfortunately that link was formed earlyish in the millenium when the military rulers made the emperor a mere figurehead...

It's worth a look at the Kano organization page, in that most of what is said there applies to the Tosa school too.
