Artists

a box by the great Ogawa Haritsu

This is another section where I'm more than a little dissatisfied at having to talk about individual names. The woodworkers, the base-lacquer craftsmen, the designers of any image, and the image-lacquer craftsmen might - very often would - all be different people, and other technical specialists may be involved too. Like printmaking, I'm rather hamstrung by the fact that it is infinitely easier to find out about Hon'ami Koetsu or Shibata Zeshin than it is to so much as get the names of any of the carpenters they might have worked with.
