Ogata Korin's lacquerwork

According to the hopelessly unreliable Lesoualc'h, Ogata Korin was the "unrivalled
master among lacquer artists." He was certainly strikingly talented, as he was in
all the artistic endeavours that he attempted, and he was important. He clearly
followed on from Koetsu, and taught Ogawa Haritsu, aka Ritsuo, who surpassed him in
many ways. Ogata was independently wealthy, so he could be outrageous, could use
loads of gold, and could take risks. Having said all that, the example here does
hark back to Koetsu's mighty Boat-Bridge in rather obvious ways.
