Our hero/ine faces a hostage problem

context: comics > Osamu Tezuka

Princess Knight

This is also mentioned in my romance section, because it is often considered the most important strip in establishing comic stories in girls' magazines. Interestingly, it also established a very major theme in girls' comics, in that its protagonist was a girl pretending to the world to be a boy - this has been seen again and again since, in many famous works (e.g. The Rose Of Versailles). It's a charming and lively piece of work, and was hugely popular.
