Maze Writing

'Maze writing', or nyobo hosho, was a bizarre and fascinating development in the Muromachi period (14th-16th C) that seems extremely Modernist in Western terms. Lines of poetry were written out of sequence, and it was up to readers to construct their own resultant poems by reordering to taste. This seems like some kind of dadaist or Oulipo game!
