Gocho Kankai, 1749-1835

Jizo-son, by Gocho

Gocho Kankai was from esoteric Buddhism rather than Zen, but I think his extreme austerity and the kind of work means he more or less belongs in this section. The work shown names Lord Jizo, the bodhisattva of the underworld, and is bold and curvaceous, again with some lovely flying white.

backwards: Jiun

forwards: Ryokan
