Ikkyu Sojun, painted by Bokusai

Buddhist stories

In medieval periods there were lots of collections of Zen sermons and thought, including notable work by Ichiren, Dozen in the the 13th C, and later Ikkyu Sojun in the 15thC. It's worth highlighting the 13th Century Uji collection, featuring lots of moralising Buddhist stories.
