Kobo Abe 1924-93

Abe was perhaps the most Kafkaesque writer this side of Kafka himself. His work was exciting, experimental, modernist, even PostModernist, and bewilderingly varied. He worked closely with the great movie director Hiroshi Teshigahara, adapting four of his books to film, most successfully The Woman in the Dunes.

backwards: Shusaku Endo

forwards: Yukio Mishima
