Japanese Tea Culture: Art, History and Practice ed. Morgan Pitelka

An academic analysis, reflecting its postmodern and poststructuralist cultural climate. Lots of uses of words like performative and contested, which might give you an idea of whether you'd want to read it. The multiplicity of angles and approaches, the breakdown of conventional historical (meta)narratives, is very much up my street. Some essays are better than others, but the level of knowledge and thoughtfulness is consistently high.
