the Shaka Triad from Horyuji, 623 A.D., gilt-bronze

Shiba Tori, active early 7th Century

Shiba Tori was the official sculptor in the early decades of the seventh century. His work (and it's unknown how much was by his hand, but there are many works produced by him and his staff, including that pictured) combines Chinese, Korean and even Siberian touches, and is stiff and very frontal, but was influential.
