context: sculpture > early sculpture

a figure from around 2000 B.C.

Mid-Jomon

It's somewhere in the third millenium B.C. that we can start to talk of sculpture instead of ceramics, when figures are made, and quite quickly these figures become completely bizarre. Beyond wacko Chariots Of The Gods explanations, I've seen nothing to account for the strangeness of these figures.
