Uragami Gyokudo 1745-1820

a landscape

An unusual figure in many ways, a samurai until he retired after his wife died when he was almost 50, which is when he started painting. His work is unusually highly worked, with layers of different kinds of brushstrokes, with wet and dry brush, dark and lighter inks.
