Japanese Art by Joan Stanley-Baker

From Thames & Hudson's magisterial World of Art series, which I see as the best assurance of a quality art book - I have dozens in this imprint, and they're all excellent. It's available (when I just now looked) as cheaply as £1.20 from Amazon, so this is unbeatable. It is a very broad overview in 200 pages, so don't expect a great deal of depth in any particular area.
