Shigisan Engi

a magic bowl carries off a storehouse

This is a fascinating item from late in the 12th Century. It's the earliest narrative scroll for which no earlier written source is known. It also has an astonishing approach to depicting sequential events in parts, a method that can only be compared to multiple exposure photography. If anyone has a decent image of the nun's night in the temple, I'd be delighted to be able to show it here.
