Sources

This is where I list the books and websites I've looked at to write whatever I have on gardens, when they aren't already listed elsewhere (try painting especially). I'll be honest about my opinion about the sources, but don't take a lack of a review as meaning anything. It might just mean that I read the book long ago and have only glanced back at a few pages recently, so can't say anything meaningful. There will be a link to any websites referenced, but I'll offer book links to either Amazon so that you can buy the book if you so wish, or to a review page here, or both if possible. If there is no Amazon link, I couldn't find it on Amazon when I put the entry in here - that doesn't mean it's unavailable now. (And no specific endorsement of Amazon is implied by this - I'm just trying to be helpful.)

Zen Gardens by Erik Borja (review) (buy it)

The Gardens of Japan by Teiji Itoh (review) (can't find it on Amazon)

Japanese Gardens by Gunter Nitschke (review) (buy it)

Japanese Flower Arrangement: Classical and Modern by Norman Sparnon (review) (buy it)

also, Oriental Architecture has something like a thousand fine photos of great Japanese buildings and gardens, amongst its wider coverage.
