Daichi-ji

Strangely trimmed shrubbery, often cubic or undulating in form, was very rare until Kobori Enshu (1579-1647), later the shogun's tea master, brought this to the fore. Daichi-ji is attributed to him, and it certainly shows his style. The image shown is considered to represent ocean waves.
