a poem by Ki no Tsurayuki, c.872-945, from the Sanjurokunin Kashu

context: calligraphy > Heian period

Sanjurokunin Kashu

This was a collection of works by 36 poets dating from about 1112AD. It seems to represent the best of Heian calligraphy, wonderfully fluid, supple hiragana on spectacular decorated paper.

backwards: early books

forwards: Lotus sutra
