With so many great musicians around and many of them not hitting mainstream nor even getting a top recording deal I actually class ‘new’ music as tracks I haven’t heard before. A few months ago I discovered ‘Riverside’ as I was getting the point where I had exhausted the entire Dream Theater collection and wanted something similar to listen to. The best albums from Riverside went back to early 2000s and from this I moved onto Anathema and Arena. Lucky enough Anathema played at the Manchester Ritz at the end of last year and I took my daughter. My best ‘new’ music was the album ‘Weather Systems’ by Anathema and was released in 2012. After the concert I ordered The Optimist from the web and was really disappointed as their newest album was nowhere near the power of the previous three. So much for new music!

Everything else was random Spotify meanderings especially the Rainforest one which they’ve been pushing on me for AGES. Oh and Yazz Ahmed came from a review on the JAZZWISE site.
