The emperor has no clothes. And he’s got a tiny dick: IndiePlanet‘s Mr Crankypants examines the MP3 situation. This section of his critique, focusing on the legal side of MP3s rightly finds that most legal MP3s are (literally) shit. The only thing I’ve ever been tempted to download from mp3.com was an MP3 player, the Macintosh version of WinAmp and even that was useless.

Until record companies realise that almost all MP3 downloaders want either songs that they know or songs that someone trustworthy has recommended rather than the potentially shit then the race for artist compensation is likely to lead nowhere. After all, who would really rather download crap than tracks from established artists?

Perhaps it would be easier for everyone if we followed Frank Skinner‘s advice and realised that the internet is meant purely for pr0n.
