King William’s College Kwizz 2019. FT Round 9
1 who started in the Justinian?
2 as what is the black trumpet also known?
3 upon what is the Lord laughing in the sun?
4 where did Dulcibella run aground, lured by Dollmann?
5 which oxymoronic engagement resulted in the humiliation of the 7th?
6 what was first conquered by an Irishman remembered for his eponymous ‘Effect’?
7 where was the home of the flat-bottomed Dreadnought?
8 whence the cobbler who developed the long drop?
9 what tossed the feline-persecuting canine?
10 what can be grey, wrinkled or wreathed?
Oh good grief – these are ridiculous. (Although I do have to mention that 9 is the cow with the crumpled horn.)
Clearly this is a round about horns….
1. is Hornblower
And thus 5 is the Battle of Little Bighorn.
In which case I’m guessing #6 refers to the Matterhorn, but I don’t know who first climbed it.
@4 re #6: Whymper? Dunno about any “effect”.
And 2 (when it comes to mushrooms) is a horn of plenty
Hmm. He wasn’t Irish either. Back to the drawing board…
w/o googling are any of them cape horn? that must have been rounded a first time in the annals of great exploration?
the “long drop” is a term of art in the trade of hanging (those executed don’t slowly strangle but have their necks swiftly broken): i don’t know who developed it tho (i.e. haven’t googled yet)
#10 looks like some kind of species question. I’m guessing hornbills – I’m sure there are grey hornbills at least, haven’t heard of the others.
