I hadn’t heard about Blur’s latest, but bought it immediately when I saw this poll, and am now hopelessly addicted to “Want U Back” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”, so if my pop listening had been more organised in 2012 those would have got votes from me as well.

Thanks for all the work on this, Kat – a very entertaining new-year diversion.

And I’ve just proved to myself that I can’t! BLUB!!

Haha, but then I like atonal dance music a lot. Carly Rae a very deserved winner for me, and the Taylor Swift was the first song of hers that convinced me she’s actually really rather good.

The Todd Terje track’s new to me and I’ve gotta say I kept waiting for the song, an actual melody, for anything that didn’t just sound like a backing track to arrive. It’s hard for me to believe that there’s enough there for people to really like. Deadmau5’s The Veldt (which was my #7 IIRC) is the same sort of chipper, laid back techno as Terje but completed (at least to my ears). At any rate, it’s worth checking out if you’re a Terje fan (who missed it) I’d say.

Oh and, in case anyone’s interested, Chairlift’s Caroline Polachek is quite the indie-babe, and also a full-on modern dance geek. Chairlift’s album struck me as good not great, but they’re clearly worth keeping an ear (and eye) out for.

However, I voted for all the top 3 and seven of the top 12 so call me Mr Consensus maybe.

I share laddie Styles’ befuddlement re the dustbins. I assume this is ‘lympics related. The things you miss out on not having a TV or access to youtube, eh?

Thanks for running this poll Kat! Great job.

You may well have heard it in the censored version, which did reasonably well on the regular Top 40: the uncensored version is much better, I think – this isn’t the sort of song that benefits from being coy.

StooShe didn’t really live up to this early promise, but I remain hopeful for 2013.
