Tractate is the third in 1911’s “More Ghost Stories”.

There may be a few fragments not in that, though.

(also now that I’ve realised that I can get them all on Freebooks app for the iPhone I should go back and fill in)

I loved that instead of allowing herself to become more disturbed when the dreams of the former owner re-arise in her husband, Mrs Anstruther reckons that they must have leaked from her head to his overnight, and that’s alright!

I also enjoyed the lack of an ending, and indeed the abrupt break after the appearance of the face: “Mr and Mrs Anstruther had been for a week or more recruiting at Brighton…” – as if after that great scare, the rest of it is playing over the credits.
