And he DOES treat it like Shakespeare, adopting a cerebral manner to expounding all potential nuances of the words like a presentational, outside-in British actor. Wow, come to think of it, he fed it back UK style to Bee Gees who co-opted Soul! How many degrees of passes is that?!
As for boy band, y’know Beatles, Elvis started out as one too. Teen appeal is fundamental to pop market. In fact Bee Gees carry more stigma than actual packaging: the notorious disco costumes lasted all but 3 years out of a 45-year career. For folks who actually started out as child performers, there’s understandably some stunted emotional development in snatches here and there, but nothing severe like a certain MJ, when secondary sexual characteristics are embraced with such unabashed camp on NON-lookers (yet another strike at “boy band” packaging.) And if boybands wrote all their own materials, held tense conferences with might bankrollers rejecting songs they don’t see commercial legs at will, then again the Gibbs ripped off the Fab 4 there, too.
