A brace of forward play and rasping cross-field action awaits as Peter Baran joins Roger Bozack via satellite for Brazil vs Cote D’Ivoire, Portugal vs Korea DPR, Honduras vs Spain, and Chile vs Switzerland, as well as a guest appearance from 1986 Pop World Cup finalists, Italy, with Raggio di Luna and “Comanchero”. As broadcast on Resonance FM 104.4 on April 3 2010.

A huge, ever-growing, pulsating radio show that’s now broadcast on Saturdays at 4pm on Resonance FM 104.4 in London, the Pop World Cup returns in podcast form this week with a two-fer (we’re catching up with the present). This time Peter Baran and Roger Bozack hear efforts from Germany, Australia, Ghana, England, USA, Algeria, Slovenia and Serbia, and we finish with a friendly between Australia and Germany – it’s Azzido da Bass and Aston Shuffle with “They’re Killing It”.
Fans of the Radio Roundup, do not despair – we haven’t gone away entirely, we’re just moving to Resonance FM 104.4 on Saturdays at 4pm, where we’ll be covering the matches currently in progress instead of giving you results on songs you already heard and voted on like a week ago.
If you’re in London you can tune to 104.4 on your FM “dial” and see if you get anything; everyone else can get the live stream at Resonance FM‘s web site.
So once again, that’s Saturdays at 4pm on Resonance. See you there!
Special DPRK adjutant liaison Mark Sinker again joins Peter Baran and Roger Bozack in PWC2010′s luxurious control suite, this time for some surprising results from the Group H matches between Switzerland and Spain and Chile and Honduras. Juniper Moon, Touch El Arab, Banda Blanca and Kudai all take the pitch. The closing song is “Ella Quiere Ron” by Omar La Chercha.
First-round Group G results here as Roger Bozack returns to the booth with Peter Baran and special deputy ambassador Mark Sinker to discuss all the high and lowlights. Despite a temporary hostage situation order is restored at halftime of DPRK vs Brasil and we also take in an eerie match between Portugal and Ivory Coast. It’s Wangjaesan Light Music Band, Los Hermanos, Bab Lee and Mikado Lab, with Kocani Orkestar to take us out.
Our Group F round-up sees Roger Bozack still Missing In Action (or Mr Inaction as his wife calls him) so iPete Baran and Steve Mannion continue their coverage in South Africa. The metal hell of Italy vs Paraguay, the sweetness of New Zealand vs Slovakia. Pete is joined in the studio by New Zealand manager Steve Mannion for inside information on team selections and quaking in fear at the italian entry. So join Baran and Mannion for all the highlights and results.
Our Group E round-up sees Roger Bozack off to cover the Pop Winter olympics so it falls to analyst Pete Baran to helm the coverage in South Africa. The first all Europe tie, Denmark vs Netherlands, followed by the very intriguing Camaroon vs Japan. Pete is joined in the studio by New Zealand manager Steve Mannion, and between them they raise the spectre of Amy Winehouse, the Sultans of Ping and of course, up from the depths, thirty storeys high, Godzilla. So join Baran and Mannion for all the highlights and results.
Group D sees our first taste of scandal as Peter Baran questions the ancestral authenticity of the German entry, Heinz, whose fuzzy guitar rock paces Australia’s Sneaky Sound System step for step. And drugs – they aren’t unknown on the Serbian electro circuit but it’s not clear if their influence will be effective for J.K., especially when matched against a fluent Ghanaian side represented by Ayigbe Edem (very much featuring Sarkodie). Kat Stevens once again joins Baran and Roger Bozack for all the highlights and results. Our outro is “On Thin Ice” by S.K. Invitational featuring Lylit.
