DAVID BOWIE - “The London Boys”(no doubt available on the endless reissues of Bowie’s ‘66 stuff)
Existentialist mod panic as Dave arrives in the big city and finds his trousers are cut wrong. I’ve long suspected that Mod was basically a lot of nasty clothes snobs sneering at each other, and it’s nice to be proved right(ish). The tune is pleasant enough and Bowie is lugubrious and hammy, but the song’s included as a social snapshot as much as anything.
