I think my appreciation of live albums runs parallel to my appreciation of live music. Since I made the realisation that most of the music I liked never existed in a live context in the first place, the search for authenticity via the live arena has also seemed deeply suspicious to me. I think soul revues are very different affairs, but I;ve never really been to any of those (a James Brown shamble at Glastonbury notwithstanding).

The live tracks I cherish are ones I don't own in other forms (Levitation live version of Bedlam off of Coterie springs to mind). And a Louden Wainwright III live gig from about eighteen years ago wot I taped off the radio which still stands as a great best of for him. (Except for new items).
