AMAZING.

(Also amazing: this is the first hit if you google ‘viking cauldron snake’)

The power & responsibility one, that is. I think what’s interesting is that Billy always has been the hyper-responsive, not-really-thinking-this-through one of the gang, from hounding off into Latveria to get himself nearly killed by Doom to losing his temper over Teddy being threatened and sending tens of opponents into a coma. He’s well-intentioned, very powerful and thus capable of more chaos than Loki (at least currently) could ever dream of. So he is kind of a natural ally to him, in that sense. At least, certainly a tool to whatever Loki’s good or bad or misadventurous ends are.

The extent to which Loki is actually trying to maintain the idea that he is his child self will be interesting to see, in Issue 2. As Ikol, he knew nearly everything Kid Loki did but I’m not sure how good he’ll be at mimicking that. He’s a clever dude but he’s also so very bound by his Loki-ness.

At the launch I was discussing Loki with Mark S and Kieron (SORRY ABOUT THAT, KIERON) and Mark S said ‘so Loki’s this really clever guy surrounded by idiots?’ Which, to me, sort of, sort of but also Loki is the most acute and classic case of ‘has excellent potential if he applied himself,’ which he doesn’t always. His tendency to fixate on things is his repeated undoing and I don’t know how much he’s learnt not to do that while he was observing himself.

I thought the ‘terribad’ line was excellent- it was exactly the sort of thing Ikol would have told Kid Loki off for.

The idea he was trying to protect Billy by seeming to threaten him is interesting. This assemblage he’s putting together is mightily curious. (Also! Does he know about Noh-Varr and Kate? Maybe not, if the sausages weren’t paying enough attention)

It is CAULDRON SNAKE.

– The two-by-two introductions! Such an elegant way to introduce a cast but I can’t remember ever seeing it done before. (Very old school DC comics used to introduce everyone then split the team up, not really for conversational purposes more for Awesome Power Combos)

– Wiccan’s power and responsibility line. The 11th Commandment of the Marvel Universe (“With Great Power…”) tends to get used as a glib endpoint of a character journey without anyone thinking through what it means: “responsibility” isn’t an on/off switch – now I am RESPONSIBLE I will be fine; you can, as Wiccan does, sincerely believe you’re acting responsibly when you are obviously doing the opposite of that.

(Also, and in a meta-sense this is important for teens in Marvel generally, Peter Parker was a VERY FUCKED UP TEEN. If Spider-Man is the template for teen heroes, that’s like, IDK, Morrissey being the template for teen pop. And nobody wants that.)

If she believes him and comes to help stop Wiccan, fine (though unlikely). If she doesn’t believe him and comes to stop Loki, also fine.

x-post or protect Wiccan! Good point.

There’s no way he genuinely thought that Miss America would assassinate someone on his say-so. So, he wanted at that point to protect Billy? Or at least have someone strong around Billy because he’s likely to do crazy shit.

This Loki is still kidding himself he can change. He’ll fail, of course. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t /trying/, at least. I suspect his Fall will be a major long-term theme.

Just because he previously identified Billy as a target, it could be Not-Teddy’s-Mum from The Goo Dimension, which would fit more logically with timing. Why must I write 3,500 and THEN think this?

But the goo looks so much like the things that Noh Varr wrapped round his guns in the first section? I assumed that was a big signifier, since it was sort of emphasised and then just thought parallel-universe Teddy must have his parentage the other way up in terms of custody. But yes, fair point.

I’m… not so clear on this! I think it’d be the Kree’s first shape-changer, for a start.

Especially because of the sharp echo to Real Actual Kid Loki’s milkshake affection- I just thought it was funny. And you’re right that it’s almost certainly straightforward 2am American diner fare.

(and thank you! I’m glad you liked it)

Well, he is a tourist.
