(He was a hard person to find a song on the Uncanny X-men sound track. The closest I came was Follow The Leader. Though The Girl And The Robot from Emma’s perspective was close)

Er… I’m saying something here in response to Tom on Tumblr, as the reblogging stuff back and forth to chat on Tumblr just seems odd.

In short: Yeah, I’m being pithy more than completely truthful again. Marvel Boy response is a start point rather than the end, and I’m more talking about THIS IS HOW HE FEELS ABOUT IT rather than there’s any ulterior motive or fear there. (i.e. It’s not about gaining Social Capital. At least here he’s not like the majority of Phonogram’s cast in that regard)

(Which was the only teen superhero comic I liked when I was 1x actual teenager) (Even though it often wasn’t very good)

(I totally agree with Tom- X-Men are SQUARES; it’s a necessary part of the METAPHOR, the worthiness of which is the other reason they tend to stray into dullsville, in that it’s all ‘oooh look she can CONTROL YOUR MIND but also she has boyfriend problems! He’s a big blue beastie but he’s also SHY about GURLS’. That said, the current X-Treme X-Men where they’ve gone multiple worlds theory-bonkers and Hercules is dating Wolverine is A+++, would hit with a sword again)

Anyway, the Avengers are kind of the opposite of that in the sense that they are all d1cks and the underlying metaphor is that being a d1ck doesn’t mean you don’t have a job to do. <—nb this is not my most thought through piece of insight pls do not quote me.

The “strangest teens of all” are pretty normal kids.

Like in the first issue of the first series where they’re all ‘oh no, we wouldn’t want to call ourselves that, how presumptuous!’ while they’re all rioting around styling themselves on the real deal, being hopeless goof offs who are just SO EXCITED. Being a Young Avenger isn’t cool or hipster-y, you can’t take any responsibility for power if you’re self-conscious about its use.

(maybe we SHOULD all write about the exact same panel some time! In, you know, our next lives where infinite time has been discovered)

By the end: “Actually this gives me more ideas, and anyway if any panel had Tom written all over it…”

Great article, though the X-Men literally can’t be squares, they are a revolution of the body just standing around, let alone at their happening coffee shop.
