We’ve got several players in tears over this gross injustice.

I’ve told the team that they go home with their heads held high, we can take pride in what were essentially two moral victories in the last two games.

We’ll need a better performance against CIV to reach the quarter finals though.

But Slovenia is a really tough draw in Round 2, one of the few teams we really fear.

These sides play a similar sort of game, which is unsurprising given their shared history. Both sides play at the same rhythm, but Chile have a more melancholy, languid build up, whereas the Spaniards are showing off their flair, all fancy flicks and stepovers. There’s no draw button, but I wouldn’t be surprised by that outcome. The Spanish look like one of the favourites heading into Round 2, but Chile have performed well and it would be sad to see them head home from South Africa so early.

Spain for me.

The manager will be hoping that, like a good Rioja (talking abour heavyweight wine producers!) , these will get better with time. No doubt the Chilean strategy is an upbeat one, creating lots of high quality chances, but I actually enjoyed the way the Spanish team returns to their tiki-taka roots with a rumba undertone to their rock formation.

Good stuff and they may just have given Chile a chance of qualifying, especially as Spain are playing with an uncharacteristic sloppiness here.

Anyway this is a good match, and the more I listen the more I like Chile’s effort here. I mean, Don’t Get Me Wrong, I like “Vino Tinto” too – the Spanish striker expresses himself with variety, weaving nimbly around the pitch – but frankly it’s a little hubristic to field a side called “Red Wine” against the undisputed heavyweights of the New World wine producers. That aside, in the end I feel Chile’s patience and precision are just too much for a Spanish team that’s already a bit drunk in celebration of their group win.

The striker has bags of confidence and flair and is supported by solid team work in all areas throughout the match. Spain are entertaining as well but their moves are a little reminiscent of Ricky Martin and begin to draw jeers from the crowd. There are gaps in their defence that the confident Chilean team should exploit for a clear win.
