To be fair, I’d imagine the people they want to attract to this event aren’t the kind of people who go to GBBF and already enjoy going to the kind of pubs that do karaoke, bands, pool, etc. It’s not my idea of fun, but then neither are the big town-centre pubs that do that kind of stuff and still seem as busy as ever to me.

I’ve always wished we’d import that greatest of German inventions, the Biergarten into our parks. Nice cold beer to wash down the incredibly salty chips and chicken on offer is one of the greatest ways to spend a summer day in the park.

Its a farago of a travesty of a piss poor idea. One of the key things about THE PUB, and I can say this as a seasoned veteran, is that THE PUB is INDOORS. Not in a park. I would go so far as to say that some sort of ceiling, if not a roof backing it up, is vital to the pubbiness of a pub. A pub can be in a park, of course it can. But I would like it to be a building, some form of shelter for me and my mates and our beverages.
