Ah, that will make the Lucky Luke movie, also starring Jean Dujardin a bit of a busted flush then too. I think I've worked ou thte problem however, it looks in the film that he is often laughing along with the gags, when actually he is giving a probably well judged air of slightly hysterical ignorance, laughing along with things he does not understand. Unfortunately, to my eye, these both look exactly the same and the first is disconcerting.

i agree completely about the lead, he is very annoying. if he had played it a little bit straighter he might have gotten better results. the brilliance of louis de funes, for instance, is making you believe that every stubbed toe is a calamity on the level of the crash of the hindenberg.

I would like to say I really enjoyed OSS 117 Cairo Nest Of Spies, but I only quite enjoyed it, as its spoofery got quite samey after a bit. Basically the lead, whilst terrific at mugging, is intensely annoying in a way that other spoof leads (Neilsen's Drebin and even Myers's Austin Powers) isn't.There is a smug self satisfaction which is fun but as he learns nothing throughout the film it all feels a bit too self-triumphant.

And i am sure loads of gags are lost in translation. I;d still see the sequel though, if only for the spot on production design.
