As for taking on the hairy cornflake role, that I'm less sure of. The only Top 40 I have reconstructed is the one for the 12th August 1977, for Al's 30th birthday. It had a really pretty solid Top 10 and then as you might expect a degree of shonk (plus some pleasant surprises) lower down. A very intriguing listen though - a snapshot of a time when pop was very much in flux.
