It’s Poptimism again on Saturday, so I have updated the Poptimism Muxtape. You will hear one or two of these on Saturday if you come, but basically think of it more as one of the giveaway CDs we used to do - a little trailer of where our (well, my) head is at popwise.

Something I’d quite like to see done, or at least attempted, at Club P (unless it has been previously attempted and I wasn’t there) is to play a whole Top 20, from bottom to top, in order, from that particular week in year x (maybe to be decided by a public, i.e. LJ, vote?). Possibly complete with voiceovers and announcements (not necessarily Dale-on-POTP style) though you’d need a microphone for those. Pick of the Poptimists - what do you reckon?

A Top 20 is probably too long (cf Kat’s awesome 20 Years Of Bosh set the other month, which got trunctated at about 14 Years Of Bosh) - I can imagine using an early set to play a complete Top 10 though. As for taking on the hairy cornflake role, that I’m less sure of.
The only Top 40 I have reconstructed is the one for the 12th August 1977, for Al’s 30th birthday. It had a really pretty solid Top 10 and then as you might expect a degree of shonk (plus some pleasant surprises) lower down. A very intriguing listen though - a snapshot of a time when pop was very much in flux.
