But the utter wrongheadedness of that can be proved empirically, as well as rebutted with snark. One need only consider the success of long, multi-volume manga (i.e., all of them). I would suggest that novelty alone might start you reading—but it won’t keep you reading; the best manga is just balls-out, over-the-top, insanely eager to entertain, in a way that I haven’t seen in Western comics (particularly Western superhero comics) in a long, long time.
