Europop 2008: I Should Coco

If you are the commenter known as COCO, who asked to play in Europop 2008 and was given PORTUGAL, can you send your email to leagueofpop@gmail.com ASAP confirming you still want to join in - we need a track for your opening game next week.

Everyone else - anticipation is HOTTING UP for this festival of pop - join us on Monday for the opening game, hosts Switzerland against Pop World Cup heroes Czech Republic. The Czechs are being managed by the former Swiss boss, to the astonishment of fans who remember his Electroclash tactics in the PWC: “All he could think of was getting the ball out to our icy-voiced winger - her languid Teutonic crosses lacked imagination to say the least.” Are they happier with their new boss? “We’re not sure - we were hoping for a recall for Dieter Meier but the press are saying he’s been fishing around in the MySpace leagues.” It could be an intriguing contest.

Seems a bit harsh. I quite liked the Seelenluft track in the PWC - and as Togo I was lucky to pip it by only one point.

How far apart are the matches from each other? I need to send you a track for the third or fourth game innit.

Two games a week, Monday and Thursday! The first of which depends on whose tracks I get first.

I inherited a team in a terrible state, so little in the way of route one pop Eurocup for me. I am all about taking risks, but sticking to the national characteristic.

Taking sides - getting out wide to your icy-voiced Teutonic singer vs hoofing up to your big Dutch eurobosh lady while leaving your back line exposed.

Oh don’t worry, we’ll be hearing from the Dutch fans’ spokesperson soon enough.

Hmm, looks like the Czech’s haven’t turned up. That’s a walkover to the Swiss surely!

Has this started yet? Or have I missed it? I need to keep an eye on the mighty Frances opponents!

It’s delayed to Thursday pending the arrival of the Czech track - sorry!

(No contact from the Portugese side either)

I call for Portugal to be DQed, or at least the manager changed to the first person who can get a Nelly Furtado album track or the MP3 of O Vento Mudou to you.

What am I saying, I wouldn’t be proud enough to not accept a win by default!

Can we have the last Pop Open 3rd round match while we’re waiting then? I believe you have both the tracks for that.

Don’t worry–the Dutch girl is here. Don’t count on me starting with a “big . . . lady,” though. The one I have in mind (may she rest in peace) is a trump card I intend to play later!

And don’t forget, we’ve got a band who’s longevity rivals that of the Rolling Stones–watch out!
