I tried hard to forget the film as soon as I had seen it, so I can't add much to your review, except to agree that its whole idea of what would constitute a compelling story-within-a-story is embarrassingly illiterate and vapid, and the noir hommage/send-up or whatever it's supposed to be could be compared to a noir send-up from, say, the Carol Burnett Show. Add the utter idiocy of the characters' behavior, its combination of pretentiousness and underestimation of audience intelligence, and it resulted in a movie which was not merely BAD, as the reviews of the time thankfully got right, but SO bad that just thinking about it now makes me want to crush the director under the heel of my shoe... and then GRIND... I realize that I probably won't have that opportunity, but your skewering of "23" is almost as satisfying. Thanks again.
