I hope the Angels are allowed free travel through this area of space I never saw an angel maybe one small one for a second flying up. They are the creators holy messengers

There is a half-arsed effort to make the humans interesting, which is the problem. The five it does bother to try and characterise it does not make them complete cliched archetypes: ie the returning soldier is a WOMANG, the sheriff is useless, the hottie actually dumps the jock. So in hinting that they may be more interesting - but by not in anyway justifying this by their actions when the crisis hits, we get distracted from their job in the film - which is fundamentally to die. 30 Days Of Night had almost exactly the same problem, wheras Planet Terror has the nous to fill its films with stock characters and then slowly develop a few of them through it actions.

The nastiness of AVP:R seemed a little tame to me really. The only sequence that really stands out is the pregant woman one (which while interesting misunderstands a) CHEST bursters, b) the reason this bit of Alien was scary in the first place (MPREG!!!).)

I actually kind of liked AvP:R, in that it's unabashedly nasty. And quite honestly, I don't think it's that unjustified -- why wouldn't children and pregnant women be just as vulnerable to an Alien/Predator attack? Also interesting to me is how pretty much no effort is made in making the humans at all interesting. It's undeniably lazy, but somehow it got to me watching these people go about their meaningless lives while the world around them collapses unnoticed. AvP:R is on accident what United 93 is on purpose.

If you went to see it yesterday, you weren't alone! In the Prince Charles everyone can hear me clap. Actually I think my clapping, at the very clever and funny "pretend we're using real film" bit, may have been the first time I actually burst into applause at the cinema. Oh god, I might have at the opening of The Phantom Menace, actually.

I'm also curious what Ver Yoof would make of all this celluloid-specific japery - I found that I quickly ignored almost all the scratching, though the fact that it was noticeably heavier around the sechs scene amused me.

I'd rather see Alien vs Predator vs STIFFLER'S MOM more like...

Actually a better pairing would probably be Harold vs Kumar vs Alien vs Predator (that way it can be a knock-out competition).

If this was the 1940s, the next logical step in the franchise would have been 'Abbott & Costello Meet Alien Versus Predator'

Well, strictly that's the rule for Aliens only, but correckt nevertheless (and the cat should have been infected).

Here we have FOUR SURVIVORS, none infected.

Planet Terror has lots of survivors, but all the right people die at the right time.
