Popular Special Announcement

Regular commenters might have noticed a certain absence from the boxes lately - mainstay Marcello seems to have gone AWOL. I’m delighted to announce that this is not, in fact, due to legal proceedings by the representatives of Clodagh Rogers, but is because he has gone and GOT MARRIED to fellow Popular commenteer Lena (though they didn’t first meet here). Hearty congratulations to the pair of them!

Hurray for Marcello and Lena! Two great writers, who I’m sure will make the most splendid partnership.

I feel as though I know them — which is the danger of the internet.

This is truly wonderful news. What would Dale say about this one, I wonder? Blessings and the best of all good fortunes to you both, Marcello and Lena. And I mean that most sincerely, friends.

And yes, Mark and I (at #4) are indeed engaged. Cupid’s arrow struck at a recent literary convention in Wrexham. He is an editor and I am a writer and he approached me when he overheard me delivering a heavilly-slurred talk on “Clodagh Rogers moments and the genius of Proust” to an enthralled audience of literary agents including my own, whom I will not care to name as I’ve now sacked her. As the police and medics closed in, Mark walked up to me:

“You must be Waldo,” he said, delivering a cheesy smile, which immediately captivated me, as it reminded me so much of Clodagh. “Am I dreaming or am I waking?”

“And you must be a logged-out pˆnk s lord whatnot,” I replied, having just acknowledged the police caution and being helped now into my straight jacket. “I never thought it would be like this…”

Needless to say romance was the inevitable consequence.

The problem is what to tell the missus…

Seem to remember Marcello telling me that he was to get married here in Canada. If so , that explains the unseasonably warm , yet wet, weather.

Ah, thanks for the good wishes folks; am absolutely knackered following my return from Toronto - I had to start packing and moving house virtually straight off the flight line - but it has unquestionably been the greatest week of both our lives and it’s still pleasingly mindboggling to think that it has all now happened.

Best wishes, clearly, are also to go out to the lucky Waldo and the luckier Mark…remember, chaps, as the good Clodagh informed us, don’t say goodnight midnight, you may turn into a Smashing Pumpkin… ;-)

Been working like a demon for the past week, so have just seen the glad tidings.

Excellent news. Did you croon a little pudding-basin era Gilbert?
You and me are all that matters
    Disregard the rest
Trust your soon to be old man
    He knows what is best
Very shortly now there’s going to be
    An answer from you
    Then one from me
    That’s matrimony

    Hooray!
