Not sure how much of an impact that made across the pond, but it was big US news for a while, the hunting for the sniper, the sniper has killed again, they've caught the sniper, trial of the sniper... it's really not a word anyone would want to attach to a hero, not before and certainly not after. That said, "Shooter" really calls for it being a biopic about controversial Marvel Comics editor Jim Shooter.
