To gain perceived authenticity a band playing live are actually playing (badly) something which copies a recording of something pieced together in the studio and in most cases NEVER ACTUALLY EXISTED LIVE IN THE FIRST PLACE. And by doing this they prove that they are a real band! Which is slight of hand if ever I saw one, and one which relies heavily on an audience compact to never pierce the bubble of “it sounds better ont he record because it SHOULD sound better on the record”/
