Ditko was at his peak when he left Spiderman. The first issue i bought off the stands was #28, and I was immediately hooked. When Romita suddenly came on board, the character changed, he became more sanitized, more like all the others. One could feel the change at the time. Certain artists have a feel for a character that others, no mater what their level of skill, just don't. I would have loved to have seen Wallace Wood do Spiderman.

Romita's artwork regarding Spider-man is the most memorable of all the artists who have ever worked on the webslinger. True, many people prefer MacFarlane, but when you think of Peter Parker, who's face do you have in your mind? Certainly not Ditko's or MacFarlane's versions. You think of Romita's version!! Romita's version of Parker is copied by other comic artists and carried over to the cartoon versions. Romita's version is not only recognizable but the most memorable and most used. By the way, artists today are drawing the webslinger HORRIBLY wrong. None of them has Parker as recognizable. I have to wait for someone to acknowledge him as Peter Parker before I actually know it's him. I should be able to look at a panel of just his face and KNOW it's Peter Parker!!! And when was the last time Mary Jane looked hot? She's supposed to be a supermodel/actress!!! She hasn't looked hot in years!!! She's really quite plain. If I were a writer, I'd have Felicia Hardy make some reference of MJ letting herself go.
