Pop World Cup Podcast1 comment • 276 views

Sixteen songs in thirty minutes! It’s like lunch in a pill. Roger Bozack and Peter Baran race through this week’s jam-packed schedule to bring you foreshortened highlights of some matches and extended musing on others. This week the Federacion de Football de Pop Eff Ayyy (I think I’ve got that right) has sent its administrative adjutant, Tim Hopkins, along to share with us his juicy behind the scenes secrets. We cover Denmark v Japan, Cameroon v Netherlands, Slovakia v Italy, Paraguay v New Zealand (though Paraguay’s effort is hampered by bitrate injuries), Portugal v Brazil, Korea DPR v Cote d’Ivoire, Chile v Spain and Switzerland v Honduras all get a look in. Whew! You can vote on them all in this handy post. Next week is a clip show.

Martin Skidmore, manager of the Algerian team, joins Peter Baran and Roger Bozack for the most action-packed week yet. The final round of the group stage is bearing down on us – who will go through and who will go home? We hear France vs South Africa; highlights from Mexico vs Uruguay, Nigeria vs South Korea, Greece vs Argentina, and Serbia vs Australia; and of course the showdown between Baran’s Team USA and Skidmore’s Algeria as well as the other match from that group, England vs Slovenia, minus Black the Ripper whose freestyle violates Resonance FM’s pre-watershed policy on lyrical, um, aggressiveness. You can vote on all these in one handy place, right here.

Fans of the Radio Roundup, do not despair – we haven’t gone away entirely, we’re just moving to Resonance FM 104.4 on Saturdays at 4pm, where we’ll be covering the matches currently in progress instead of giving you results on songs you already heard and voted on like a week ago.

If you’re in London you can tune to 104.4 on your FM “dial” and see if you get anything; everyone else can get the live stream at Resonance FM‘s web site.

So once again, that’s Saturdays at 4pm on Resonance. See you there!

Our Group E round-up sees Roger Bozack off to cover the Pop Winter olympics so it falls to analyst Pete Baran to helm the coverage in South Africa. The first all Europe tie, Denmark vs Netherlands, followed by the very intriguing Camaroon vs Japan. Pete is joined in the studio by New Zealand manager Steve Mannion, and between them they raise the spectre of Amy Winehouse, the Sultans of Ping and of course, up from the depths, thirty storeys high, Godzilla. So join Baran and Mannion for all the highlights and results.
